The visitor must be cautious not to check any luggage from a stranger, for their own safety as well as the safety of other passengers. Luggage should be checked at the check-in counter of the corresponding airline where their boarding pass will be handed to them. Usually a person is allowed to check from 20 to 30 kilos, depending on the airline. If this weight limit is surpassed, then the rest of the quantity will have to be paid by the concept of excess weight.

If the passenger has some difficulty moving about, the airline will treat them specially (wheel chairs are available and these passengers are checked and boarded first) but this should be previously reported to the airline or travel agency when the reservation is made and / or the ticket purchased.

The airline is in charge of deciding if a sick and / or bedridden passenger will be allowed to travel. If this is so, then the passenger will travel on a stretcher or lying down on several seats, and accompanied by another person.

As to pregnant women, the airlines recommend that these women not travel by plane if their pregnancy is beyond 36 weeks, but always the pregnant woman should consult with the airline and sign a discharge of responsibility in case an emergency should arise.

Children under 12 years of age should travel with an adult and most airlines have an accompaniment service available, that takes charge of the child, the service previously being paid for. If the passenger is a vegetarian o requires some kind of special food, this should be requested when the reservation is made and / or the ticket bought, previously paying the quantity stipulated by the airline.

If the passenger wishes to take his or her pet, a corresponding fee should be paid and the pet should be put in an appropriate container. If the animal weighs less than six kilos (this varies according to the airline) then it may travel in the cabin. If the animal weighs more, then it will have to travel in the hold. The passenger should report that he or she intends to travel with a pet when the ticket is purchased. If the animal is a guide dog then it can accompany its owner without paying any extra quantity and will have to travel with a muzzle, a collar and a leash, and stay beside his owner.

Some objects such as scissors, files, letter openers, aerosols, hypodermic needles or nail cutters must be checked as luggage and never be taken on board the airplane. If a passenger needs to use hypodermic needles for medical treatment, he or she is allowed to takes the needles on board the aircraft by showing a medical certificate (consult with the airline).

Passengers should never take on board the aircraft matches, lighters, fireworks or similar products, combustible products, flammable liquids, paints, glues, solvents, gas carboy, bleach or any element that contains some kind of chemical substance, gasoline, insecticide, rat poison or dry ice.

Passenger’s hand luggage will pass through a control point (X ray equipment) and the passengers pass through a metal detection unit. The passenger that has a pacemaker should report this fact to security personnel.
