Guanche science

The Guanches had some knowledge of different sciences, related to daily life.

They used mathematics to count their livestock, in their ceramic manufacture they used geometrical figures such as adornments, in their construction some type of length measurement is appreciated.

Their knowledge of astronomy allowed them to make a calendar, as well as take advantage of the astronomical phenomena in the different stages of harvesting, recollection and festivities.

The Guanches wielded therapeutical knowledge of the medicinal value of plants, animal and mineral substances and used them to cure different ailments. They handled simple surgical techniques as well as mummification processes, they knew the nutritional and or medicinal value of several vegetables that they used for food.

They mixed different substances to make dyes and also some medicines, as well as evidencing a copious knowledge of geology which spawned an incipient mining industry. They used different techniques for tilling the earth, making ceramics, leather tanning, making fabrics out of vegetable fibres, stone and wood sculpture.
